Placeholder Update:

Just like the rest of you, I don’t know what the fuck.

I had this whole idea that I would use this site as a digital diary for my writing process. But the querying trenches are tedious, dull, and no one wants to hear about my fragile sense of worth or chronic need to excel making (totally common, and often even encouraging) rejection letters, uh, devastating.

So I started a podcast. I had to do something with the website. It was a niche idea and easily pitchable. Also really fun.

But production schedule outpaced content creation (I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing) and ultimately this was also abandoned.

But, man, I was still pumped, you know? I was prepping for writing workshop applications, querying, competing, networking with other authors, doing the damn thing, and then I got laid off.

COVID. Everything is canceled.

Summer 2020 protests, I briefly entertained using the website to promote the movement and the small businesses of my friends.

My dog, Nefie, my soul mate, died during lockdown. I moved four times in something like twenty months (also during lockdown).

Nearly drank myself to death, according to a cousin who spearheaded an intervention.

Oh, and also, everyone hates each other and we’re all basically terrible.

So I bailed on the whole journalism-to-save-the-world concept too.

Maybe the website is more an archive of my compulsive approach to wild, wonderful ideas and ultimately only “finishing” things when I stop working on it.

I’d abandoned all art except for writing during the first recession of my adult life since it wasn’t economical.

Then I abandoned writing (I’m really hoping not forever).

Now, I live in a city with a lively art culture. Started taking classes; became inspired to paint again. For the foreseeable future, updates will be about that process. Maybe I’ll set up a shop later, once I start making prints and calendars or whatever.

So…I suppose this is the gallery of a lost generation artist struggling to express herself?

Take the below “About Me” with a grain of salt. I’m a totally different person now.

… but a bit short on the necessary fucks to update it.

Hi, I’m Gloria!

20180211_221721

Welcome to G S Adventum, my page for all things literary, fascinating and adventurous!

About Me:

I am an excitable, incurably curious writer.

I am of the opinion that thirty is the new twenty, Empire Strikes Back is the best sequel

ever made, and avocado is a gift from the gods.

I believe in the magic of the third chardonnay, that food ought not to be boring, and that it is perfectly acceptable for your best friend to have paws.

I think thriving is way more fun than just surviving, that you can surprise yourself with a little discipline, and that riotous merriment with your closest friends is medicinal.

My Inspirations:

I have always been inspired by world builders, in fiction, in lore, in history and even in nature. I am a die hard monster and robot nerd, and always game for futuristic sci fi, especially if it includes space travel or galactic politics. I also geek hard for biographical and historical nonfiction.

I enjoy modernized fairy tales, stories that aren’t afraid of political plotlines, gothic horror, and intense, theatrical action that leaves you breathless.

But most of all, I love stories about people. All shapes and sizes and color. From every imaginable background, timeline, and universe. My writing explores the bonds of friendship, the long-lasting sting of betrayal, the sweeping passion of love and lust and everything in between. The child soldier, the widower, the refugee. The orphan, the leader, the lover. The adventurer, the reluctant and the recluse. The webs that connect us and branch out at the crossroads; the moments we can never forgive and the strength it takes to look in the mirror.

In my poems and short stories, I work through these concepts in myriad styles. My novels weave several of these themes at once in a science fiction or fantasy setting.

Work in Progress:

My novel, The Waterclock Wars, is a twilight steampunk, dawn of cyberpunk geopolitical thriller spread across six narrators. I am currently pitching it to literary agents and I can’t wait to share it with you.
